You may not need to try them all. Just work your way down the list until you find the one that fixes the problem. Sometimes a USB port can just stop working when you upgrade to a new version of Windows.

You should always check for this problem first. If the device you just plugged in does work, then continue to Method 2. Windows has a setting, called Filter Keys, that allows you to control how it deals with accidental repeated keystrokes. Unfortunately, if turned on, this setting has been known to cause some keyboards to stop working in Windows If it is, you should turn it off and see if that resolves the problem.

One of the most common causes of an unresponsive keyboard is an outdated keyboard or USB driver. There are two ways you can get the right drivers for your keyboard and USB port: manually or automatically.

Automatic driver update — Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for both your mouse and your USB port.

But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks and you get full support and a day money back guarantee :. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers. Windows is a very old technology. Now that we have the internet, fast connection speeds, free cloud storage, and endless web apps like Gmail, Google Docs, Slack, Facebook, Dropbox and Spotify , the entire Windows way of doing things — with locally installed programs and local file storage — is totally outdated.

Why is that a problem? Plus the way Windows manages installed software and hardware has always been a problem. For most people, the simplest way to solve Windows problems is to ditch Windows altogether, and switch to a faster, more reliable, more secure, easier to use and cheaper operating system…. Google ChromeOS.

ChromeOS feels much like Windows, but instead of installing heaps of programs to email, chat, browse the internet, write documents, do school presentations, create spreadsheets, and whatever else you normally do on a computer, you use web apps.

I’m a technical writer for Driver Easy. Before finding my love for writing tech posts, I had passion for technology goes back much further. New guy wanted to charge me an hour minimum and told him just fix it. In the end I still have a brick. How is it that tech 1 was able to initially fix it? So I wait until tech 1 comes back. A couple of weeks go by and the tech 2 said tech 1 quit. So l know it can be fixed, I just want to know how tech 1 did it without a keyboard and mouse.

Agree, everything was fine until the last win 10 update downloaded. MS chat session was a waste of 3 hrs. Instead of offering to help resolve the problem they directed me to MY IT dept. Hellooo Mac. I am facing a problem that my laptop is not working. No help here. Nothing resolved. After Resetting PC, stuck at screen before login with no mouse or keyboard movement. This fixed my problem and my older USB 1. My mouse and keyboard would intermittently stop working about once per day.

It was infuriating. Previously I had the problem at least once a day if not more. If I was able to do any of that it would be nice mouse and keyboard stop soon as windows starts I have done everything I know to do they both are working fine in BIOS and on safe mode but stop soon as the little circle starts. I have same problem.

Mouse and keyboard not working after windows 10 reinstall. I have the same problem there is basically no solution i can boot up bios with keyboard and mouse and enable the usb things. And still nothing yeah i tryed booting up with safe mode no solution for anything..

I have my lesson learned hard way. Do not attempt reset PC on window 10 at all course! That bloody option mess up everything. It just happend my PC keep reboot after login phase for no reason lead me to straight up try reset. Only to met another disaster, keyboard and mouse not working.

Not just that almost all usb port doesnt work. It took me 2 days to settle that by doing clean install, format the pc fresh again. Thats the only option guys. Because the keyboard n mouse is working in BiOs. Fresh install using usb. Your email address will not be published.

If the issue still persist, refer to this link and follow the steps on how to Update a device driver using Windows Update. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thank you for the reply. We’ve already tried multiple troubleshooting steps and the same issue still persists.

In this case, let’s try to troubleshoot the issue by using different keyboard and mouse, connect it to all available USB port of your computer regardless if it’s desktop or laptop. Then, check if you are able to enter safe mode or run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. I think the case might be when I attach a USB mini dehumidifier to my computer to let stay power on, even when I power off my computer.

The keyboard came with the system and is wired. The mouse I bought is wireless. Yes, it worked fine before. Posted 27 July – AM. I think the case might be when I attach a USB mini dehumidifier to my computer. This is because if you were using a wireless KB it would not be detected during the POST so you want the system to continue to skip the error and keep going to load Windows until the wireless drivers get loaded and then things will work fine but that is not your setup.

Is it possible to test the keyboard on another system or do you have another keyboard you could plug in just temporarily. If that thing is still plugged in, power off, unplug everything except the keyboard, unplug from power, remove battery, press and hold down power button for 60 seconds to drain any residual power. You will not get far until that Keyboard Error is fixed and remember that has nothing to do with Windows since Windows isn’t loaded yet.

The monitor says Acer so if the system is Acer tell us some details so we can look up ideas on the Acer support site:. I’ve tested my KB on my other computer and it works. I also tested different KB and it’s the same result.

I managed to get a different reading on the black screen, but I don’t remember what I did. Posted 28 July – AM. From the screen shot in your post 4 it seems likely that you are using a desktop, it would have been helpful if you had included the make and model of your computer in your first post.

You are going to need to re-set your BIOS to defaults. First, shutdown the computer, switch off the PSU if it has a switch and remove the power cord. Hold down the ‘On’ switch for about 30 seconds, this discharges any residual voltages, then take the side off and remove the CMOS battery. Then leave the computer for about 10 minutes – a cup of coffee or tea, a glass of beer, whatever takes your fancy.

At the end of 10 minutes or so replace the CMOS battery make sure it goes back the same way round that it was , put the side back on, re-connect and turn on the PSU and see if the computer will start.

It may or it may not but as this procedure is entirely non-destructive it will do your computer no harm and the worst that can happen is that you have wasted 15 minutes or so of your time. Shut down your computer properly. Once it is turned off, take out the power outlet or if you are using the laptop, take out the battery. Now press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds. This will ensure that all the power is drained.

After waiting minutes, plug everything back and check if the issue gets resolved. This eliminates any bad configurations saved on your computer and refreshes it.

Option 2: Disabling Filter Keys 1. Turn on your computer and let the Login screen load. Once the Login screen is loaded, click the Accessibility icon present at the bottom-right side of the screen.

Now if the Filter Keys are turned on, you need to turn it off by toggling the option once using your mouse. Once you are done with the changes, try inputting through your keyboard and check if the issue went away. You can also re-plug your keyboard and see if it helps. Option 3: Using on-screen Keyboard and Reinstalling Drivers. In this solution, we will try reinstalling your keyboard drivers from the device manager and see if it makes any difference.
